Workshop Events

Orica graduates in Australia, NZ and PNG from each stream come together twice a year for our Graduate Program Development Workshops.  As well as being introduced to Orica and the program, it’s here that you’ll learn self-development techniques, interaction and career-planning skills, how to gain the most from a mentor relationship, how to network, customer relationship skills and leadership skills. Senior Orica leaders attend the workshop dinners, so you’ll have a great chance to interact and ask questions. Importantly, the workshops are a chance to meet up with a group that will soon become your Orica friendship network - your graduate peers. Lots of fun is had by all!

Buddies

When you start, you’ll be assigned a ‘buddy’ from the second-year graduate group, who’ll help you settle in, point you in the right direction, and answer any ‘silly’ or sensible questions you have. Your buddy will be an invaluable source of inside information while you get started. Then, in your second year, you’ll become a buddy to the next intake of graduates – a great way to cut your teeth on leadership skills.

Mentors

Toward the end of your second year with us, you’ll have the chance to by mentored by someone from amongst our most senior business and technical leaders. Your mentor will be selected from outside your direct reporting line to give you the freedom to open up on all issues. Their role is to guide your career decision-making and help you negotiate through the internal intricacies of an organisation of Orica's size and complexity. Our mentors are carefully selected on the basis of their strong cross-business and technical experience.
